7th Grade--Wrap up Geometry (surface area, circumference, volume of solid and irregular shapes; Distributive property; Calculating Interest; Math curriculum review for 7th grade

*Students will have homework this week and a quiz.

*Next week, students will have no homework due to testing.  ITBS will be April 23rd & 24th.  Please be sure to encourage healthy eating and plenty of rest.

*Mr. Gring and I will be in Philadelphia attending the National Math Conference April 24th-28th.

6th & 7th Grade Math Information for Mar. 12-16

Happy March!!!  I've just returned from being in Washington D.C. all last week and we are well on our way to developing skills in Geometry.

6th Grade:  2D and 3D shapes; Lines, Angles and Planes; Measurement of figures; Fractions

7th Grade:  2D and 3D shapes; Lines, Angles and Planes; Measurement of figures; Order of Operations & Integers

Homework is always due the next day.  Please continue to encourage punctuality with assignments.  It is imperative that students understand the impact late assignments have on their overall grade.  With only 5-6 true weeks of instruction, missing assignments can seriously affect their grade.

Also, please remind your child that tutoring is always available during lunch time in my classroom.  Many students come in as needed to get assistance with homework or classwork.

Have a great week!

6th & 7th Grade Math Information for Feb. 13-17

Happy Valentine's Day and Love of Reading Week!!!

This week we will finish up with Data Analysis and move into Probability & Statistics.  Although many of our lessons have included probability and statistics, we will be focusing on the major themes of these concepts and applying them to activities in class.  We will also continue mastering computational skills at each grade level.  Please continue to encourage your child to study his/her math facts as often as possible!

6th Grade--Circle Graphs (Pie Charts), Displays of Data; Fractions

NEW--Theoretical/Experimental Probability; Tree Diagrams; rates and ratios

7th Grade--Circle Graphs (Pie Charts), Relative Frequency & Percentages; Fractions & Measures of Central Tendency

NEW--Calculating Probability; Calculating simple interest, rates & ratios; Tree Diagrams

Reminders:  Test retakes are this week!  Please encourage your child to study before attempting the retake!

6th & 7th Grade Math Information for Feb. 6-10

Happy February!  The last 2 weeks have been cut short due to several events, therefore, we will continue with our work from last week.  We will be finishing up with data analysis this week and moving into the following standards:

6th Grade:  COMPUTATION--Fractions, division with decimals, identifying integers and their absolute value; Probability & tree diagrams

7th Grade:  COMPUTATION--Conversion of percents, fractions, decimals; Probability, Rates, Ratios, Proportions.

We will continue working on data analysis as review, and every day we will continue mastering computational skills.  Please encourage your child to practice computation daily as it effects every aspect of their understanding of mathematics.  One way to do this would be to post a math problem on a white board in your home and have your child work on the problem during the week.

Beginning next week, I will begin posting math notes for students to access if they need further assistance in their math homework.  Please be sure to check the website daily for updates!!!
